Last St. Patrick’s Day I was the one who volunteered to bring St. Patrick’s Day treats into my 2-year-old’s class. Yep, the person who had just sold her house and moved her family in with her parents (again!), and started a renovation (again, but this time out of state!). Oh yeah, I also had a 2-month-old baby.
Busy people get things done, ya know?
So, I searched Pinterest for what I felt would be the easiest project to do *with* my kids.
You know, as in they would help!
I found Shamrock pretzels which I thought would be cute and seemed fairly simple to make.
Trader Joe’s (or in our house, we call it TJ’s) has some gluten-free pretzels that were the right shape, so we grabbed a bag (while we did our other food shopping).
Then, we headed over to Michaels to pick up the rest of the supplies.
- Lollipop Sticks
- Green Chocolate for Melting (this is really a thing!)
- Small plastic bags (they come in a set of 50 if I remember correctly)
- String (to tie it up)
All you have to do is melt the chocolate, dip each pretzel in it and then put it on wax paper in the shape of a Shamrock around the stick, add another glob of chocolate, and tada – you’re done. Easy peasy right?
Well, I put the infant down for a nap and melted the chocolate (double boiler style in a glass bowl over a pot). Guess what happened as soon as all the chocolate was melted?!
I bet you guessed it. Infant woke up. As in she took a 10-minute nap. And suddenly, she was starving!
So, I did what any mom would do. I nursed while dipping pretzels into melted chocolate.
It was definitely an experience, but it got done.
And nope, my older boys (the 3 and 5-year-old), yeah, they didn’t help.
So, this St. Patrick’s Day at least I know what I’m getting into if I decide to volunteer to make anything.
And, how much you want to bet my now 14-month-old will decide she wants to nurse then? Because this weening her at a year just hasn’t been working…
Here are some shots of the finished project.
So, what do you think? Is it something you’ll tackle this year?
I’d love to hear what *easy* St. Patrick’s Day treats you’ve done!
xoxo
